HK's IB Diploma Results
Aug 25, 2025The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) results for 2025 were released in July 2025. The global average score for the July 2025 session was 30.58 out of 45, with a pass rate of 81.26% for the 202,103 students worldwide. The average subject grade was 4.89, and around 9,456 students scored 40+ points, with roughly 0.1% (about 200 students) achieving a perfect 45.
Hong Kong’s performance remained exceptional, with an average score of 36.72 across 2,630 candidates, well above the global average. The city’s pass rate was 97.02%, with an average subject grade of 5.78. Notably, 31 students in Hong Kong scored a perfect 45, and schools like St. Paul’s Co-Educational College (42.1) and Diocesan Boys’ School (41) outperformed many global peers. Other strong performers included Singapore International School and Malvern College Hong Kong, both averaging 39 points, with 47.1% and 33% of their students scoring 40+, respectively.
Hong Kong’s edge likely stems from its intense academic culture and preparation, which helped students navigate challenges like the tough 2025 maths exam. Compared to global trends, where scores have hovered between 29.65 and 32.98 from 2016 to 2025, Hong Kong’s consistent high performance cements its status as an IB powerhouse, rivalled by regions like Singapore and the UK.
